Terms of Service

Effective: January 1, 2026

Last Updated: July 26, 2026

Our Promise to You

At Spruce Place Woodcraft, we believe purchasing handcrafted furniture should be a straightforward and enjoyable experience. These Terms of Service explain how our custom projects, orders, payments, delivery, returns, and warranty work. We have written them to provide clarity while reflecting the care and craftsmanship we put into every piece we build.

Introduction & Acceptance of Service

These Terms & Conditions apply to all purchases from Spruce Place Woodcraft, whether online, by phone, or in-person, unless otherwise stated in a separate written agreement. By accessing our website, submitting an inquiry, requesting a quote, placing an order, or purchasing a product from Spruce Place Woodcraft, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to these Terms of Service.

Our Products

Spruce Place Woodcraft creates handcrafted furniture and woodworking products using carefully selected materials and traditional woodworking techniques.

Because our products are handmade, no two pieces will be exactly alike. Natural variations in wood are an inherent and desirable characteristic of solid-wood furniture.

Variations may include:

  • Wood grain and figure

  • Color and tonal variation

  • Knots and mineral streaks

  • Small variations in texture

  • Natural movement of the wood

  • Minor differences in dimensions

  • Differences between photographs, samples, and the finished piece

These characteristics are not considered defects and are part of what makes each handmade piece unique.

Product photographs are intended to provide a general representation of a product. Unless specifically identified as the exact piece being offered for sale, photographs should not be interpreted as a guarantee that the finished piece will have identical grain, color, or other natural characteristics.

Custom Furniture & Special Orders

Many Spruce Place Woodcraft projects are individually designed and built specifically for a customer.

Custom projects may include modifications to an existing design or a completely original design developed according to the customer’s requirements.

Custom orders may involve:

  • Dimensions

  • Wood species

  • Lumber selection

  • Hardware

  • Finish

  • Joinery

  • Design details

  • Storage requirements

  • Functional requirements

  • Other customer-specified features

The customer is responsible for reviewing and approving the specifications of a custom project before production begins.

Once a custom project has been approved and production has begun, changes may not be possible without additional charges and/or an adjustment to the estimated completion date.

Changes requested after approval may result in additional material, labor, design, or shipping costs.

Spruce Place Woodcraft reserves the right to determine whether a requested change can reasonably be accommodated once production has begun.

Quotes, Estimates & Proposals

Quotes and estimates are based upon the information available at the time they are prepared.

The final price of a custom project may be affected by:

  • Changes in dimensions or design

  • Customer-selected wood species

  • Lumber availability

  • Current material costs

  • Hardware selection

  • Finish selection

  • Additional labor or design requirements

  • Shipping or delivery requirements

An estimate or proposal does not constitute a completed order until the customer has accepted the proposal and any required deposit has been received.

Unless otherwise stated in writing, estimates are valid for 30 days from the date provided.

Pricing

Spruce Place Woodcraft is committed to providing honest and transparent pricing for handcrafted work.

Prices may vary based upon the materials, design, dimensions, construction requirements, finish, hardware, labor, and other specifications associated with a particular project.

Because lumber and other material costs can change, prices for future projects are not guaranteed to remain the same as prices previously quoted.

Any change to an approved project that affects the cost will be communicated to the customer before the additional work is performed whenever reasonably possible.

Applicable sales tax, shipping, delivery, crating, or other charges will be identified where applicable.

Deposits & Payment

Custom furniture projects generally require a 50% deposit to reserve production time and place the project in the Spruce Place Woodcraft production queue.

The deposit also allows Spruce Place Woodcraft to purchase or allocate materials necessary for the project.

Unless otherwise agreed in writing:

  • A 50% deposit is required before production begins.

  • The remaining balance is due before shipment, delivery, or customer pickup.

  • Custom-order deposits are nonrefundable once the applicable cancellation period has passed or materials/procedural commitments have been made.

  • Additional work or changes outside the approved scope may require additional payment.

Spruce Place Woodcraft reserves the right to delay production, shipment, delivery, or pickup until required payments have been received.

Production Times

Most custom furniture is built to order.

Our typical estimated production time for furniture is approximately 6–12 weeks, depending on the size, complexity, materials, current production schedule, and other requirements of the project.

Smaller items generally ship within approximately one week, while in-stock items may be available for immediate shipment.

These timeframes are estimates and are not guaranteed delivery dates unless a specific completion or delivery date has been agreed to in writing.

Production times may be affected by:

  • Material availability

  • Supplier delays

  • Customer-requested changes

  • Design approval delays

  • Unexpected shop or equipment issues

  • Severe weather

  • Shipping or transportation delays

  • Circumstances beyond our reasonable control

We will make reasonable efforts to communicate significant delays and keep customers informed about the status of their projects.

Order Changes

We understand that customers may occasionally want to make changes to a project.

Requests for changes should be made as early as possible.

Changes made before production begins may be accommodated when practical. Changes made after materials have been purchased or production has begun may result in:

  • Additional material costs

  • Additional labor charges

  • Design or engineering charges

  • Revised completion dates

  • Additional shipping or delivery charges

Spruce Place Woodcraft will determine whether a requested change can reasonably be incorporated into a project.

Order Cancellations

For standard, non-custom orders, customers may request cancellation within 48 hours of placing the order.

A $75 processing fee may be deducted from any applicable refund associated with a cancellation during this period.

For custom projects, deposits are generally nonrefundable after the applicable cancellation period and/or once materials have been purchased, production has begun, or other substantial commitments have been made on behalf of the customer.

If a customer cancels a project after production has begun, Spruce Place Woodcraft may retain or charge an amount reasonably associated with materials, labor, design work, administrative costs, and other expenses incurred.

For non-custom products that have entered production, a 25% restocking or cancellation fee may apply where applicable.

Nothing in this section is intended to limit any cancellation or other rights that cannot legally be waived.

Returns

Non-Custom Products

Unless otherwise stated on the product listing, eligible non-custom products may be returned within 30 days of delivery provided that:

  • The item is in new and unused condition.

  • The item has not been damaged, modified, or altered.

  • The item is returned in substantially the same condition in which it was received.

The customer is responsible for return shipping costs unless the return is the result of an error by Spruce Place Woodcraft or the product is otherwise covered by an applicable warranty or legal requirement.

Original shipping charges may be nonrefundable.

A restocking fee may apply where disclosed at the time of purchase.

Custom & Special-Order Products

Because custom furniture is designed and built specifically for an individual customer, custom, personalized, modified, or special-order products are generally not eligible for return or refund due to a change of mind, design preference, or sizing preference.

This does not affect any rights a customer may have under an applicable warranty or law.

Shipping

Spruce Place Woodcraft may offer shipping through appropriate carriers depending upon the size and nature of the product.

Large furniture may require freight, specialized transportation, crating, or white-glove delivery services.

Shipping and delivery costs may be separate from the product price and will be communicated as applicable.

Customers are responsible for providing accurate shipping and delivery information.

Additional charges resulting from incorrect addresses, failed delivery attempts, storage, re-delivery, or other customer-caused delivery issues may be the responsibility of the customer.

Local Delivery & Customer Pickup

Local delivery may be available for qualifying orders and will be quoted separately when applicable.

Customers selecting pickup are responsible for arriving at the agreed time with an appropriate vehicle and sufficient assistance or equipment to safely transport the furniture.

Spruce Place Woodcraft may provide reasonable assistance with loading but is not responsible for damage occurring after the customer takes possession of the furniture.

Customers should ensure that furniture will fit through doors, hallways, stairways, elevators, and other access points before arranging delivery or pickup.

For custom furniture, the customer is responsible for verifying measurements and access requirements unless Spruce Place Woodcraft has specifically agreed in writing to perform those measurements.

Delivery Inspection & Shipping Damage

Customers should inspect furniture and other products as soon as reasonably possible after delivery.

If apparent shipping damage is discovered, the customer should:

  • Photograph the damage.

  • Photograph the packaging and shipping materials.

  • Retain the packaging when reasonably possible.

  • Notify Spruce Place Woodcraft promptly.

  • Follow any instructions provided regarding a carrier damage claim.

Shipping damage should be reported as soon as reasonably possible after discovery so that an appropriate resolution can be determined.

Furniture Warranty

At Spruce Place Woodcraft, we stand behind every piece we build. Our furniture is guaranteed against compromises in craftsmanship and materials, reflecting the confidence and value we place in our work. Each piece is carefully built to provide lasting beauty, strength, and function—and our commitment to quality continues long after your furniture leaves our workshop.

Our Warranty

Spruce Place Woodcraft warrants that our furniture will be free from defects in craftsmanship and materials under normal residential use.

This warranty applies to the original purchaser and covers defects that result from the way a piece was constructed or from a failure of the materials used in its construction.

If a covered issue occurs, Spruce Place Woodcraft will, at our discretion, repair the furniture, replace the affected component, or provide another appropriate remedy.

What Is Covered

This warranty covers workmanship and material defects, including:

  • Structural failures resulting from improper or defective construction.

  • Failure of properly constructed joints under normal use.

  • Defective hardware or components supplied and installed by Spruce Place Woodcraft.

  • Significant defects in the wood or other materials that materially affect the structural integrity or intended function of the furniture.

  • Other workmanship issues that, in our reasonable judgment, represent a compromise in the quality of construction.

Because every piece is handmade from natural materials, minor variations in color, grain, texture, knots, and other characteristics of the wood are considered natural features rather than defects.

What Is Not Covered

This warranty does not cover damage or deterioration resulting from:

  • Normal wear and tear.

  • Scratches, dents, stains, burns, or other accidental damage.

  • Misuse, abuse, neglect, or improper handling.

  • Excessive weight or use beyond the furniture’s intended purpose.

  • Exposure to excessive moisture, standing water, extreme humidity, or prolonged dryness.

  • Direct sunlight or prolonged exposure to heat sources that causes fading, discoloration, or movement in the wood.

  • Improper cleaning, maintenance, or the use of products that are not recommended by Spruce Place Woodcraft.

  • Modifications, alterations, repairs, or refinishing performed by anyone other than Spruce Place Woodcraft.

  • Damage occurring during moving, relocation, shipping, or transportation after the furniture has been received by the customer.

  • Damage caused by environmental conditions outside the control of Spruce Place Woodcraft.

Natural movement of solid wood—including seasonal expansion and contraction, minor changes in dimensions, small checks or cracks, and changes in color or patina—is an inherent characteristic of genuine wood and is not considered a warranty defect unless it results in a significant failure of the furniture’s intended structural function.

Finishes

Our hand-applied finishes are designed to protect and enhance the natural beauty of the wood. Over time, finishes will naturally develop character through normal use.

Fading, minor surface wear, and changes in sheen or color resulting from normal use, sunlight, cleaning, or aging are not considered defects.

Customers are responsible for following the care and maintenance recommendations provided by Spruce Place Woodcraft. Damage resulting from improper care or the use of unsuitable cleaning products is not covered.

Custom Furniture

Custom-built furniture is covered by the same craftsmanship and materials warranty as our standard furniture.

Because custom pieces are designed and built specifically for an individual customer, warranty coverage does not extend to changes in personal preference, changes in room conditions, changes in intended use, or dissatisfaction with aesthetic choices that were approved by the customer before construction.

Dimensions, materials, hardware, finishes, and design details approved by the customer are considered part of the agreed-upon specifications.

How to Make a Warranty Claim

If you believe your furniture has a defect covered by this warranty, please contact Spruce Place Woodcraft as soon as reasonably possible.

Please provide:

Your name and contact information.

Proof of purchase.

A description of the issue.

Photographs showing the issue and the overall piece.

Any other information we may reasonably request to evaluate the claim.

We may request additional photographs, information, or an inspection of the furniture before determining whether an issue is covered under this warranty.

Warranty Resolution

If a claim is determined to be covered, Spruce Place Woodcraft will work with the customer to determine the most appropriate solution.

Depending on the nature and extent of the issue, the remedy may include:

  • Repair of the affected area or component.

  • Replacement of a defective component.

  • Refinishing of an affected area when appropriate.

  • Replacement of the furniture when repair is not reasonably practical.

  • Another mutually agreed-upon remedy appropriate to the circumstances.

Spruce Place Woodcraft will make reasonable efforts to match the original wood, color, grain, and finish. Because wood is a natural material, an exact match cannot always be guaranteed, particularly as furniture ages and develops its own character.

Shipping and Transportation

If a warranty claim requires the furniture to be returned to our workshop or transported for repair, Spruce Place Woodcraft will determine the appropriate transportation arrangements on a case-by-case basis.

Transportation or shipping costs associated with damage that is not covered under this warranty are the responsibility of the customer.

Transfer of Ownership

This warranty applies to the original purchaser and is not transferable to subsequent owners unless otherwise agreed to in writing by Spruce Place Woodcraft.

Limitations

This warranty is intended to provide assurance of the quality of our craftsmanship and materials. It does not guarantee that furniture will remain free from the effects of normal use, aging, environmental conditions, or the natural characteristics of solid wood.

To the extent permitted by applicable law, Spruce Place Woodcraft’s responsibility under this warranty is limited to the repair, replacement, or other remedy described above.

This warranty does not affect any rights or remedies that cannot legally be excluded or limited under applicable law.

Our Commitment

We build furniture with the intention that it will be enjoyed for years and, ideally, passed down for generations. If something goes wrong because we fell short of the standard we set for our work, we want to know about it and make it right.

That’s our commitment to you—and to the furniture we put our name on.

Furniture Care & Customer Responsibility

Proper care is important to preserving the appearance and longevity of handcrafted furniture.

Customers should follow the furniture-care instructions provided by Spruce Place Woodcraft.

Unless otherwise instructed, we generally recommend:

  • Dusting with a clean microfiber cloth.

  • Cleaning with a lightly damp cloth when necessary.

  • Using a mild water-and-white-vinegar solution when appropriate.

  • Drying the surface thoroughly after cleaning.

  • Avoiding excessive moisture.

  • Avoiding prolonged exposure to extreme temperature or humidity.

  • Avoiding harsh chemicals and inappropriate cleaning products.

Customers should not use products such as dishwashing detergent, furniture waxes, polishing products, acrylic cleaners, ammonia, bleach, or mineral oil unless specifically recommended for the particular product.

Failure to properly care for furniture may affect warranty coverage.

Natural Wood Movement

Solid wood is a natural material that responds to changes in temperature and humidity.

Seasonal changes may cause small movements, including:

  • Changes in dimensions

  • Small gaps

  • Minor cracks or checking

  • Changes in fit

  • Movement around joints

  • Changes in color or appearance

These characteristics are inherent to solid wood and are not necessarily indicative of defective workmanship.

Spruce Place Woodcraft designs and constructs furniture with normal wood movement in mind. However, no solid-wood furniture can be completely isolated from changes in its surrounding environment.

Customers should maintain a reasonably stable indoor environment appropriate for solid-wood furniture.
